The Stories and History of Our Past Champions
Reminiscent of I Will OHM You’s (Dan Shaffer) playoff run in 2013 Lauren entered the playoffs with a losing record. She could be thought of as a victim of circumstance as three of those losses came by less than ten points and include one tie lost by virtue of QB points. None of that matters in the playoffs though, and in her quarterfinal matchup Lauren was pit against a team she had beaten during the season by more than 100 points. Although the re-match wasn’t as eventful, Lauren came through with a comfortable victory of solid performances. In the semi-finals, a chance for revenge was on the line as Punt Intended (Alexis Laurence) had previously defeated Lauren in a match that ended in a tiebreaker. On this day there would be no tie as rookie sensation David Johnson was the sparkplug that guided Lauren to victory with a 44 point performance. In an interesting side note, this was the first playoff game in league history to feature teams that ended the week with a player having a negative score as Javorius Allen and Danny Amendola both scored -1 point.

Super Bowl IV – Sailor Wenis vs. Straight Outta Scottsdale

In the run up to the Super Bowl I don’t think anyone would have predicted this matchup but having it upon us it seemed like it was the unstoppable force vs. the unmovable object. Straight Outta Scottsdale (Mike Muncal) was a steady, solid, high scoring team throughout the season. Despite her early struggles, Lauren had become a playoff monster who would not be stopped. With an amazing four players scoring 20 or more points, including an incredible 45 from the Cardinals defense, Lauren cruised to victory and to her place in league history.
Although his season got off to a rocky start, Jon rebounded swiftly and reeled off six straight wins. Despite a few additional hiccups he marched confidently into the playoffs with a record good enough to secure a first round bye. In the second round Ricard, Play Hard (Anthony Ricard) awaited. An impressive 42 points performance by Odell Beckham Junior along with a 29 point masterpiece from the Buffalo Bills put Anthony away in no time as Jon turned in his second 180+ point performance of the season. Brimming with confidence, Jon swaggered into a Super Bowl III matchup with the reigning champion I Will Ohm You (Dan Shaffer).

Super Bowl III – VD and the Carriers vs. I Will Ohm You

Super Bowl III was a back and forth affair of contrasting styles. Dan had built a steady team of performers. Each member of his team contributed modestly but steadily. By contrast, Jon’s team was explosive. Led by a 34 point explosion from Odell Beckham Junior and another 28 points chipped in by the old warhorse Antonio Gates Jon’s team raised the league trophy in victory after leading the league in points the entire season.
In a particularly down year for the league a team with a losing record in the regular season made the playoffs. That isn’t to say the team was without quality. Dan lost four games during the regular season by less than 10 points, an ignominious stat to be sure. Dan drew a tough matchup against the defending league champion Matt who had beaten him earlier in the season. He could not replicate his early season success as his team could only muster 66 points on the week allowing Dan to cruise to victory and a matchup with last year’s runner up Ted. Ted had previously beaten Dan on the strength of Matt Ryan, Demaryius Thomas and Arian Foster but an injury to Foster (surprise! surprise!) and essentially no show performances by Ryan and Thomas quickly put this game out of reach. Dan was buoyed by an outstanding 37 point showing by Nick Foles and an outrageous 23 points from his kicker Justin Tucker. Another previous conqueror vanquished Dan moved on to a Super Bowl II showdown with Bridges Be Crazy (Lauren Bridge).

Super Bowl II – I Will Ohm You vs. Bridges Be Crazy

Much like it’s first iteration Super Bowl II highlighted those who didn’t perform. Dan had studs Calvin Johnson, Greg Olsen and Justin Tucker return 16 points. Lauren had Jordy Nelson, Dennis Johnson (RB-Hou) and Tyler Eifert amass only 12 points. Let us not remember only the failures, great performances were had as well. LeSean McCoy turned in a heroic 33 point effort as the Eagles thrashed the Bears. The Carolina Panthers D/ST also racked them up in a 24 point effort over the Saints. In a stunning turn of events a 6-7 team avenged three of its defeats en route to a historic Super Bowl victory.
A solid campaign led Matt to a first round playoff berth against the Qkuantaqwuallis Cougars (Christian Williams). The Cougars seemed to have had the game in hand early with solid performances across the board. Enter the Arizona Cardinals and the horrifically awful no good day. They lost to the Seattle Seahawks 58-0 powering Matt and his Seahawks DST to 50 points and earning him the victory. The following week Matt was challenged by Designated Drinker (Dan Shaffer). Both sides put forth solid performances but Dan was let down by poor performances from Jamaal Charles and Reggie Wayne leading Matt to victory and setting up a Super Bowl showdown with his then roommate First and Ted (Ted Brown).

Super Bowl I – Matt Attack vs. First and Ted

This game turned out to be a game for the ages. Both sides struggled mightily. Danny Amendola and a pre-murder rampage Aaron Hernandez provided Ted with a grand total of 2 points. Matt was not immune from poor performances as Chris Johnson and Tony Gonzalez scored a total of 6 points. As the games wound down that night, the scores were tied 118-118. The QB points tiebreaker was firmly with Ted and Aaron Rodgers thanks to his 36 points performance. Every week is subject to overnight stat corrections and fantasy Super Bowl week is no exception. A Wes Welker fumble was re-classified providing Matt two additional points and victory!
